Gallup Pays For Navajo Pavilion

GALLUP, N.M.?Gallup city councilors have agreed to provide $20,000 to sponsor the Navajo Nation's pavilion at next month's Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. The council on Tuesday directed City Manager David Ruiz to find the money for the sponsorship. Ruiz said the funds could come from the council budget that is used for such things as travel.

In the biggest public relations event in Dairy Queen history, billionaire Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban stayed true to his promise by serving up ice cream cones and working as a cashier at a Coppell, Texas, Dairy Queen during Wednesday's lunch rush. Cuban donned a requested DQ shirt bearing the name "Tony," explaining he thought it would be funny, while the rest of the DQ regulars wore Mavericks apparel he provided.

Editor: When I first heard about the gun debate, I thought it would be a mute point. Responsible gun owners already know that the campus is no place for guns. Don't get me wrong, there are many places where guns are appropriate, and I completely support the right to bear arms.

Honors Program gets a New Home

Beginning after the Paralympics in March the Honors Program is planning to move to Building 619 in the Fort Douglas complex. The Honors Program is currently housed in the Sill Center. Although the move is not slated for completion until October of 2002, expansion plans are already underway.

Favre Handed NFL Defensive MVP Award to Strahan

Wednesday, the NFL unveiled its Defensive Player of the Year, and it was no surprise that the NFL awarded the honor to Giants defensive end Michael Strahan for the amazing feat he accomplished this season. It took almost 17 years for the NFL sack record to be broken, and it was broken by one of the best defensive ends the pro game has ever seen, but of course, in the NFL, there's been less attention focused on the new record than on whether the play he broke the record on was scripted or not.

Women’s Netters Host Utah State on Friday

The regular season is finally beginning for the U women's tennis team, and coach John Tsumas can finally see how much his team has improved, and if the Utes can contend for a conference title. The first matchup for the Utes will be against in-state rival Utah State Friday at the Eccles Tennis Center.
