Golfers Finish 13th at SD Invite

By , , and March 19, 2002
The Utah golf team returned to action this week after a month off. The way the Utes played at the San Diego Invitational, however, they could have used another month away from playing competitively in order to get in some practice time. The U was 13th among the 17 competing teams, finishing with a total three-round score of 959 (317-323-319).

Arkansas Situation Has Easy Resolution

March 19, 2002
About the only facet of college basketball more mystifying than some audacious Southern Illinois team winding up in the Sweet 16 (not to mention figuring out exactly what the hell a "Saluki" is) is the whole Nolan Richardson-Arkansas saga. Concerning the former, my own eccentric beliefs suggest that the universe operates not via some overarching, governing force, but rather is only a product of a random collision of atoms which subsequently generate chaos?a process resulting in the continued success of SIU.

Softball Must Delay Home Debut Again

March 19, 2002
It happened again. For the second straight time, the debut home game for the U softball team will not take place as scheduled because of weather. The game with Utah State that was to take place today has been postponed until April 23. Ute Field still has snow on it and simply is not in playable condition.

Swimmers Qualify as All-MWC

March 19, 2002
The Mountain West Conference announced the 2002 All-Conference swimming and diving team, and 15 Utes received individual honors. Five of those honored were First Team selections, while the remaining 10 were Second Team honorees. Jonathon Hanna (freshman, 1,650-meter freestyle) was the only male swimmer from the U on the First Team, while Tessa Greegor (freshman, 100 breaststroke), Kristen Kaiser (sophomore, 400 individual medley), Neringa Statkeviciute (sophomore, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle), and Loren Sweny (freshman, 500 freestyle) made it on the First Team for the women.

Letter to the Editor: Restrict Computer Use at U

Editor: It is time for the computer lab to institute passwords on the computers in the main lab in the Marriott Library. As inconvenient as it may seem, it will save everyone time and it will save the university money. Day after day I encounter people who are obviously not students gambling, viewing pornography, gaming, listening to music or talking in chat rooms.

The Chronicle’s View: Unfair Change in Residency Policy

March 19, 2002
Budget cuts and tuition increases are necessary evils in times of economic gloom, even the most money conscious student or faculty member will admit. But with one particular piece of legislation, the state Legislature went too far?House Bill 331. Unless Gov.

As New Institute Comes, Browning Leaves

March 19, 2002
Along with a new building, the LDS Institute of Religion will get new leadership this summer. Officials from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have reassigned Institute Director Paul Browning to the church's curriculum department, where he will help produce educational workbooks and manuals.

U Improvements Lack Impact Without Community

March 19, 2002
Well, that's it. Take down the Olympic flags and put away the souvenir mugs?both the Olympic and Paralympic Games are over. And though we may moan about the return to our regularly scheduled lives, for the most part, the U community has emerged triumphant.
