Private Company May Buy TRAX

SALT LAKE CITY?The Utah Transit Authority is considering selling its $500 million light-rail system to a private company and leasing it back to take advantage of federal tax law and raise millions of dollars. UTA officials said the sale lease back plan, in use in several other states, could provide an immediate $25 million to $50 million.

ASUU Candidate Filing Deadline Approaches

Students planning to be involved in student government next year must act soon. The filing deadline for students who wish to run for president or vice president of the Associated Students of the University of Utah is this Friday. Students running for the General Assembly, Student Senate or senior class president need to file by Wednesday, Jan.

An NFL Season Gone Wrong

Judging from my thought process prior to the 2001-02 NFL season, I would have said the Monday Nighter between the Vikes and the Ravens would have carried different implications. In evaluation of my preseason picks in the Chrony, dated Sept. 5 and 7, I might have seen the Vikes jockeying for home field advantage in the Playoffs at this point in time.

Even without two starters?injured center Chris Burgess and suspended point guard Travis Spivey?the Utah men's basketball team (10-3) did just enough in Moraga, Calif., Monday night to squeak by the St. Mary's Gaels (5-8) by the score of 41-35. Spivey, a senior in his second year at the U, received a one game suspension for a violation of team conduct rules.
