Oly Merchandise Stolen Form Truck

SALT LAKE CITY?Forty IOC coats and jackets and other Olympic apparel were stolen from a truck in West Valley City, raising concerns about a possible security breach at the 2002 Winter Games. The coats were designed exclusively for International Olympic Committee delegates.

Boy Kills Teacher in Alt. High School

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.?A 17 year-old student at an alternative high school stabbed a counselor to death Wednesday during an argument in a classroom, authorities said. The youth, identified as Corey Ramos, ran from the building and was arrested by police about a half-mile away, Hampden County prosecutor William Bennett said.

As the Egyptian ambassador to the United States, Fahmy represents a country that was torn apart by terrorism 10 years ago. However, for four years, the terrorist activity in Egypt has stopped.

Errant U.S. Bomb Kills 3, Injures 19 Soldiers

WASHINGTON?Three American soldiers were killed and 19 wounded in Afghanistan Wednesday when a U.S. bomb missed its Taliban target. The bomb, carrying 2,000 pounds of explosives, landed about 100 yards from the soldiers' position north of Kandahar, where the Taliban is making its last stand against Afghan opposition forces.

Utes Place Four on MWC First Team

It's late-season swoon notwithstanding, the Utah football team saw some recognition come its way Wednesday for finishing the year at 7-4 after being picked to finish just sixth in the Mountain West Conference. In recognition of the team's massive turnaround, the MWC All-Conference Team included 18 Utes.

Unless you play in the NFL, where road teams have won an astounding 49 percent of this year's games, it's generally agreed that home field or home court advantage counts for quite a bit. For instance, the 2001 Denver Nuggets had a great 29-12 record when playing at their home arena, the Pepsi Center, but an 11-30 road mark relegated the team to an overall losing record and a lottery pick rather than a playoff spot.

Perhaps I should drag myself to Smith's, shell out $30 bucks and purchase a Christmas tree, because I have an early holiday gift wish. My holiday hopes spawn from an announcement made by BYU athletic director Val Hale December 4. With the backing of Mountain West Conference university presidents, Hale said BYU might file an antitrust lawsuit against the Bowl Championship Series for the snubbing into a big-money bowl game.
