The fact that a bill like this would even be considered is a little frightening. If our elected lawmakers are having difficulty deciding whether or not it is okay to make threats, abuse their power and accept bribes, we have a much larger problem than a bill is going to fix.

Democracy has prevailed, at least for the time being. Regrettably, there is still bad news. Although Big Brother might have been bloodied and bruised a bit, Utah's alcohol laws still really suck.

Instead of maintaining a process that wastes six weeks of time, tax-payer money and the time of possible renters, the Senate should snap out of it and follow the House's lead.

By requiring undocumented students who work to pay out-of-state tuition, the bill is also pricing the students out of a college education. The Legislature needs to vote down this bill, which will only result in discrimination and restrict the possibilities of hundreds of students seeking a better quality of life.

If a bill proposed at the Utah Legislature passes, undocumented students receiving in-state tuition would be required to sign a legal declaration each semester promising they haven't worked in the past year.
