Love thy neighbor to the South?

By By Tony Pizza, Sports Editor September 12, 2008

I have a confession to make. I actually cheered for BYU to block that potential game-tying extra point against Washington last week. I know I gave my only Cougar friend a load of crap for BYU's luck, or what tight end Dennis Pitta called destiny, but secretly I was glad. It turns out BYU was living right off the field last week, and for once I'm OK with that.

By By Milo S. Madsen, Staff Writer (1928) September 12, 2008

Captain Alton "Moose" Carmen and his Ute warriors carried the Crimson aggregation to a smashing 20 to 0 victory over Utah Aggies in the big Turkey Day annual classic in the Ute stadium before 17,000 spectators, Thursday. Their victory netted them the Rocky Mountain Conference championship crown.

U should have worked with city on Master Plan

September 12, 2008

Even with consideration of the cons, the Master Plan is still a worthy goal. It would have been nice if the U took extra time to engage the mayor, who didn't receive a draft copy of the plan until Aug. 27. In the future, the U should strive harder to be a good neighbor to those who live on its borders.

Give smokers a break

By By Chase Straight September 12, 2008

Smoking is bad, and the person holding the cigarette knows that already. The more time a pious commentator spends around the smoker, the longer he or she will be exposed to the secondhand smoke anyway, so they might as well keep truckin'.

Utes and Aggies continue in-state rivalry

By By Chris Kamrani, Asst. Sports Editor September 12, 2008

The U offense will look to take advantage of a beaten Aggie defense that gave up an astounding 688 yards last week to Oregon8212;408 being accumulated on the ground. The Utes have yet to have a 100-yard rusher this season, and the tandem tailbacks of Matt Asiata and Darrell Mack should be looking to blow the game open for the Utes, using their brute size and open-field toughness to wear down the Aggies.

The Edge: Utah Utes vs. Utah State Aggies

By By Chris Kamrani, Asst. Sports Editor September 12, 2008

No mystery this week, sorry. Utes definitely have the edge against the Aggies.

Robbers fail in wheelchair getaway

By By Michael McFall, Staff Writer September 12, 2008

Frank Thrower and Steven Hobbs, both 66 years old, walked into the first floor of the Moran Eye Center on Wednesday at 7:40 p.m. with a wheelchair and picked up a computer from the front information desk, according to a police report. Thrower sat down in the wheelchair with the computer in his lap while Hobbs wheeled him out of the building.

Voters between a rock and a hard place in mayors’ race

By By Aaron Shaddy September 12, 2008

In the battle to define who is a greater fiscal conservative, Corroon wins by default simply by not having raised taxes. Renckert doesn't seem to offer much on that front, or for that matter any front at all.

Student advocacy board offering forums on health care, taxes, voting

By By Niccolo Barber, Staff Writer September 12, 2008

The ASUU student advocacy board will offer a series of monthly forums this year which will cover issues pertinent to students' lives, such as health care, taxes and voter protection.

Regents approve Master Plan, Becker calls for delay

By By David Servatius, Staff Writer September 12, 2008

The Utah State Board of Regents gave final approval to the U's Campus Master Plan during its regular meeting Sept. 5, apparently disregarding a request from Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker that the approval be delayed.
