U Facilities Management removed three incidences of graffiti on campus in the past two weeks. It's a problem the U does its best to keep under control, said Cory Higgins, associate vice president for Facilities Management. "We try to get on it immediately, as soon as we find it," Higgins said.

When Ken Rasmussen discovered 30 years ago that he had the rare blood type O-, he decided he would start donating blood. "It's something I can do, so I give," Rasmussen said. "It doesn't take too much time." At a time when blood is in high demand but less is available, the small amount of time Rasmussen takes out of his day to donate blood helps more than he knows.

Nicotine dependency linked to age and genetics

U researchers have found a gene that correlates with nicotine addiction in long-term smokers who started before the age of 17. "People who initiate smoking by age 17 are on average more heavily dependent in their lifetime smoking behavior," said Robert Weiss, lead author of the study and U professor of human genetics.

U art prof and students work with children to create mural downtown
