Surplus Center sells used supplies

Tucked away in a historic building on upper campus is the U's Surplus and Salvage Center, where students and U personnel can find old campus equipment and supplies for bargain prices. When departments on campus are replacing old equipment or can't use something any longer, they call up the surplus center to collect and sell it.

Chronicle’s view: Give kudos to Huntsman

John M. Huntsman Sr. announced March 5 that he plans to double the size of the Huntsman Cancer Institute. There could not be a more warranted and welcome expansion on this campus. Twice the amount of patients will be able to have their medical needs addressed thanks to the new expansion, which is slated for completion in 2010.

Huntsman Institute to undergo expansion

Construction on a six-story, 120,000-square-foot addition to the Huntsman Cancer Institute could begin by the end of this year. The additional space will double the hospital's patient capacity and provide more room for research. Founder Jon Huntsman made the surprise announcement last week after touring the hospital and meeting patients with cyclist and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong.

Law school may raise minimum GPA

A proposal to raise the minimum GPA for the S. J. Quinney College of Law from 1.85 to 2.5 is causing a ruckus among U law students, who have been sparring in an online debate over the possible change since its announcement last week. Robert Adler, associate dean for academic affairs at the law school, said the change is necessary to ensure students who graduate are able to pass the bar exam and be qualified attorneys.
