Religion at the U: Islamic students at U keep the faith

By By Michael McFall February 6, 2008
Loui Ismaeel, a sophomore in pre-med, leaned over, picked up a little black clock from his desk and watched the digital seconds tick away. There were still six hours before sunrise -- the time to face east for the morning prayer. Ismaeel remembered the call for prayer, or adhan, in his hometown of Jeddeh, Saudi Arabia, 8,000 miles away, when the local mosque's speaker system broadcasts it for all to hear.

Religion at the U: Students find peace at Zen Center

By By Carlos Mayorga February 6, 2008
Dozens of people arrive at the Kanzeon Zen Center just before 10 a.m. on Sunday, the largest crowd of the week, for meditation and a lesson on applying Buddhist teachings. People quietly hug and exchange smiles. They remove their shoes and head upstairs. Those who have already arrived are sitting on cushions, legs crossed and eyes closed in meditation.

By By Cody Brunner February 6, 2008
Getting help on the offensive side of the ball was of the utmost importance to the U football coaches this recruiting season, and it looks as though their hard work paid off on National Signing Day. Jensen: The triumph of transparency

By By Matteo Jensen February 6, 2008
What is the difference between an illusionist and a junta? Only a junta can really make its subjects disappear. The comedy (and tragedy) of this joke lies in its accuracy. Throughout Argentina, thousands of people, mostly young, "permanently disappeared" during the tragic period of military rule in the 1970s and 1980s.

U reacts to statewide Romney landslide, Obama victory

February 6, 2008
John McCain and Hillary Clinton are likely to have won the most delegates in yesterday's Super Tuesday presidential primary, but Utahns voted differently. Republican Mitt Romney overwhelmingly beat McCain in the Utah Republican Party Primary, receiving about 90 percent of the vote and all of Utah's 36 GOP delegates.

Men’s Hoops: Utes hope to break even against Vegas

February 6, 2008
Runnin' Utes head coach Jim Boylen didn't get much time to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday. Even the big game took a backseat to quality time Boylen wanted to spend with his two daughters, Layla and Ashlen. The parts of the game Boylen did see, he appreciated, particularly because of his love for defense.
