October 3, 2007
Hey Cubs fans, break out the Old Style and stogies -- this is "Anno Catuli," aka The Year of Our Cubs. The Anno Catuli sign -- which currently reads AC006299 and looms behind right field -- counts the years it's been since division, league and world championships.

U soccer begins a four-game road trip

By By Natalie Dicou October 3, 2007
The players of the U women's soccer team know they're a tough group to beat under the lights at Ute Field. With their fans rooting them on, the Utes (6-2-2) play smarter, quicker and with a ton of confidence. With four road games looming on the Utes' schedule, they must prove that they can consistently win away from home.

Buhler jabs at Becker’s record

October 3, 2007
The race for Salt Lake City Mayor has been characterized as a competition between two nice guys. But that friendly image didn't seem to prevent the candidates from engaging one another during a debate at the Hinckley Institute of Politics on Tuesday. Republican Dave Buhler intensified his criticism of opponent Ralph Becker, often questioning Becker's record as a state legislator.

Health insurance may become mandatory

By By Rochelle McConkie October 2, 2007
U administrators want to require that all students have health insurance, but they need the OK of a state insurance plan from Governor Jon Huntsman Jr. for anything to happen. By By Carlos Mayorga October 2, 2007
Almost-freezing temperatures, heavy rain and snow didn't keep many students and families in Salt Lake City's Vietnamese community from attending the annual outdoor Moon Festival at Sugar House Park on Saturday. The festival, hosted by the Vietnamese American Student Association at the U, is celebrated around mid-September and has been an annual event for the past 20 years.

Jazz prologue

By By Jason Peterson October 2, 2007
It's that time of year again. The leaves are changing, the rain can't decide whether to turn to snow or not and the waft of tailgaters' chili and hot dogs permeate the air each weekend. Football fanatics aside, autumn doesn't begin for many Utahns until seven-foot men throw on the baby blue jerseys with "JAZZ" across the front.

I want my GLBT TV

By By Anastasia Niedrich October 2, 2007
According to a recent study of 87 TV shows' 650 characters conducted by GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, the number of GLBTQ characters depicted on network TV is declining, although rising on cable. For the President of Iran and others who may not know, the GLBTQ acronym stands for people that identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, transgender or queer.

A’s for attendance

By By Dani Kauerz October 2, 2007
One of my biggest pet peeves about classes is being graded on participation and/or attendance. When starting a new semester, the first thing I always browse the syllabus for is the section on grading. Without exception, the last three semesters I have been graded on participation and attendance in every class, and it drives me nuts.

Let it snow, for real

By By Jessica Dunn October 2, 2007
Winter is coming! The leaves are changing, the temperature is dropping and the mountains have their first dusting of snow. Pools are closing, ski sales are starting and I just got in my first bit of preseason boarding. Goodbye miniskirt. Hello snowboarding pants.

By By Eric Williams October 2, 2007
Contemporary skier, world traveler and brand marketer. At 23, Utah native Blake Nyman has his hand in a good chunk of the ski industry. Six-feet 4-inches tall, Nyman stands out in the park, but his height is far from the only reason he turns heads on the slopes.
