Larger families decrease health of parents, U study says

Parents with more children are less likely to live long, healthy lives than those with smaller families, according to a recent study by U researchers. The study examined the mortality of more than 21,000 married couples and their 174,000 children in Utah between 1860 and 1895, coming to the conclusion that having more children greatly reduces the chance of parental survival.

ASUU offices prepare for construction

Student government offices will be undergoing construction as ASUU begins a three-stage plan to renovate its headquarters in the Union. Over the years, the Associated Students of the University of Utah have obtained money through in-kind donations from groups it has advertised with, alumni and other sources.

Trustees clarify campaign expenditure rules

Candidates participating in the upcoming student government elections now have more specific guidelines regarding how to report all campaign expenditures. The U Board of Trustees passed an amendment to the ASUU constitution, Redbook, clarifying election-spending policies Dec.

Keep on dancing

Students are preparing to dance their way to a cure for cancer with the new Rock the U dance marathon. "Rock the U is on fire right now," said Angie McMurray, executive director of the event. "There is tons to do, but a lot is happening." So far, about 30 dancers have committed to participate in this 26.

Military match-up

It's 9:15 in the morning, the temperature is pushing 30 degrees and the cadets and midshipmen are wailing on each other in the snow. In conjunction with the actual Army vs. Navy football game on Saturday, the U Naval and Army ROTC played their annual game of flag football, a tradition that started 23 years ago.

International partnership

In January, a U professor and graduate student will be trading Utah's snowy climate for a taste of the Middle East, traveling to the rapidly developing cities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai to participate in a partnership with Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates.

Senate, Assemly to give $25,000 to UPC in place of Redbook amendment

This week the ASUU Senate and General Assembly plans to pass legislation granting the Union Programming Council an additional $25,000 to fund Crimson Nights and other campus activities. This sum was decided upon by the Associated Students of the University of Utah in place of UPC's request for an amendment to Redbook, the ASUU constitution, to secure permanent funding for its activities.

ASUU position changes now total eight

By the end of the semester, eight ASUU executive cabinet positions will have changed, continuing the game of musical chairs within the student government. Last year, under former Associated Students of the University of Utah President Ali Hasnain, two appointments were made midyear due to resignations.
