Task force examines student media,

As the U Board of Trustees prepares to vote on a bill to slash funding for KUTE student radio, a presidential task force is examining possibilities for reorganizing all student media on campus. University of Utah President Michael K. Young created the task force last spring to evaluate student media outlets after the trustees tabled a bill that would have given the student government control over KUTE.

MapQuest never seemed so cool. In conjunction with national Geography Awareness Week and Geographic Information System (GIS) Day, on Wednesday the U Geography Department informed students what the world of geographic research has to offer. Geography Information Systems are computerized maps that are wired to satellites and other databases and are used to do mapping analysis, simulations, study environmental and climate change, do urban planning, study the relationships between geography and disease and map transportation routes.

U reaches out to Asia

The growing importance of China and India in world affairs has U administrators looking to Asia. The U is currently working to build connections with universities, private donors and government organizations throughout the continent. Administrators said it's important for the U to establish strong relationships with these emerging global economic and political powers before it's too late.

Opposing mandatory health insurance is socially irresponsible

Editor: Is the question of mandatory student health insurance really a debate? Indiana, Georgia, Emory, Ohio State, Vermont and all UC schools (including Berkeley and UCLA) are just a few schools that require all students to have health insurance. About 90 percent of private schools have this requirement (BYU since 1989), and more and more public schools are requiring students to be covered.
