U Exchange Student Dies in Car Accident

Axel Roessler, a German exchange student to the University of Utah during Fall Semester 2000, died, according to International Center officials.

Roessler died Sept. 20 in a car accident while driving to Duesseldorf, Germany, ?the city where he lived, worked and loved,? according to friend Salman Gharaibeh, a mechanical engineering student who met Roesseler through the International Center.

Roessler was in the U?s MBA program.

?Axel had a great personality and was an active person who had lots of friends and left all of us impressed with his kindness and high spirits,? Gharaibeh said. ?He was smart and funny, yet humble and responsible. I was lucky to have him as a companion in several trips here in the United States in which he was an avid hiker and a great companion in both good and hard times.?
