Letter to the Editor: December Graduation Needed

By Jennifer Turner

Dear Editor:

After many years of school and sacrifice, I am finally looking forward to graduating at the end of this semester. There is only one problem. Though it might be slight, it still is something that bothers me.

The U does not have a graduation ceremony in December. If I do graduate this December, I will have to wait until May to enjoy the recognition of this momentous occasion.

To some this may not be a big deal, but it’s huge to me. I am the first member of my family to graduate from a university, and it has taken me a long time to actually do it.

I have plans to leave the country, possibly after this semester, and if I do, I will miss out on the graduation ceremony all together.

Is there anyone else out there in the same predicament? Is there any way we can get together to change the situation? I know of other schools that have graduation ceremonies each semester, and I know of people that have walked in December graduations.

I would love to know how many people out there plan on graduating this December, and wish that there was a graduation ceremony to follow all of our hard work.

Jennifer Turner
