Utes sign assistant coach

The U women’s basketball team on Sunday announced the hiring of Daron Park as an assistant coach for the Utes. Having spent much of his career at Westminster College, where he coached both men’s and women’s basketball, Park is well-known in the local area for his contribution to sports.

Park served as not only a basketball coach for Westminster, but he also served as the head golf coach and the head sports information director.

Park brings with him a dedication to excellence that should fit in well with head coach Elaine Elliott’s master plan.

Jaclyn Lee, a basketball player who played under Park in the 2000-2002 seasons and also coached under him in the 2002-2003 season, said that he is the right man for the job.

“I think he is a really good coach,” Lee said. “He has a very intelligent basketball mind. When I was playing for him at Westminster, we had the best game plan of any team.”

Lee said that Park is the type of person who will commit himself to his players’ preparation.

“He would watch hours of film and do whatever he could just to make sure we were prepared,” Lee said.
