GameDay 101

By Urban Meyer

This is it Ute fans.

The biggest Saturday (or any day) in Utah football history is a mere two days away. I’ve put together a short “class” on the basics of what to do this Saturday.

ESPN’s “College Football GameDay” will be here to show how the nation how great this rivalry is. Follow this simple primer and everyone and their dog will be talking about Utah football on Monday morning. Do your part, and we’ll take care of the game.

What: The greatest college football show in the nation. Seriously, how many live shows can tout a studio audience of more than 20,000 fans every week? These guys get the juices flowing in even the most apathetic college football follower. Lee Corso is an old college coach, (if your football knowledge goes back a ways, you’ll remember he knows a thing or two about beating the Team Down South himself) and generates most of the animated banter between the group. I can’t wait to see him try on the Swoop head. Kirk Herbstreit is an ex-quarterback who was the signal caller for Ohio State. He knows a ton about college football. Chris Fowler runs the show and is probably the best studio host there is.

Where: The show will be filmed in the west parking lot of Rice-Eccles stadium, right near the TRAX station. It should be a great scene, with 20,000 Ute fans and the stadium behind them.

When: The guys get here at 3 p.m. on Friday to do their weekly radio show. You might not be on TV yet, but if we get a big crowd, you know the radio listeners will hear it. Plus there will be plenty of free giveaways to get the weekend started off right. Saturday morning is the big show. It goes on the air at 8:30 a.m., but get there early! The U will serve French toast and hot cocoa to the first 5,000 fans, with 10,000 sets of pompoms just waiting to be given out as well. Cheer like crazy and come back throughout the day to watch them film “SportsCenter” updates. After we beat TDS, watch the “GameDay” final wrap-up show with a bunch of happy Ute fans.

Dress Code: Painted faces, anything and everything crimson, signs, horns, headdresses and kitchen sinks.

The more red you wear, the better the atmosphere. I will personally rip up your tickets if you wear blue. (You think I’m joking?)

Behavior: GO CRAZY!! GO NUTS!!! GO WILD!!! GO CRAZY, NUTS AND WILD!!! I’m serious! The rowdier it is, the more fun it is for the crowd and for the country. Let’s show them what kind of fans Utah has!

Final Notes: There it is Ute fans. I know I have nothing to worry about because we have the best fans in the country. We will make a great impression on every college football fan and “GameDay” will make a habit of coming to our campus. This is our time in the spotlight!

You ain’t seen nothing yet!

GO UTES!
