Lacrosse and rugby prepare for start of seasons

The U lacrosse team will begin their spring season on Feb. 18 against Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz.

The team went 13-1 last fall and hopes to replicate their success against difficult competition. Upcoming opponents BYU, Arizona State, Colorado, Colorado State and Cal Poly all finished in the top 10 in the USLIA standings last season.

Coach Mason Goodhand says the Utes have “a lot to smile about” heading into 2005, adding, “We are finding ways to play smarter and more aggressive lacrosse.”

The Ute rugby team is heading to Moab for spring training camp this weekend.

They will open season play in the Red Rock Tournament at St. George on Feb. 11.

Notable matches include the annual Wasatch Cup against BYU on March 3 and the territorial playoffs on April 1.

The national rugby Sweet 16 and championship events take place throughout the month of April.
