Get a job that cares: Nursing fair offers plethora of work and education opportunities

By Jessica Fresques

On Oct. 20, dozens of students attended the annual Nursing Career Fair, at which 15 vendors, including the Army, ROTC and U hospital, discussed the benefits of the degree.

There is a high demand for nurses in the Army, and many scholarships are offered to pay for books, fees and tuition, Army ROTC representative Ronald Fischer said.

Students stopped by “sporadically” between classes, and Fischer said he was pleased with the variety of medical students he met.

The fair, organized by the College of Nursing and sponsored by the Alumni Board of the College of Health, has traditionally been held in the college but was moved to the education building for this and subsequent years.

Fair organizer Sue Onwuegbu said the event was a success because many students had conversations about going into nursing with potential employers.

Students interested in careers in nursing can contact the College of Nursing or visit its Web site at www.nurs.utah.edu.
