Bogut to get number retired

Former Ute center Andrew Bogut will get his moment in the sun next month, when he has his No. 4 jersey retired to the Huntsman Center rafters.

The 2005 Wooden Award winner and No. 1 NBA draft pick will be honored at a ceremony prior to the Utes’ 7 p.m. game against Air Force on Feb. 18.

A video chronicling Bogut’s two-year Ute career will be shown before his jersey gets lifted to the roof to join Bill McGill’s No. 12, Arnie Ferrin’s No. 22, Danny Vranes’ No. 23, Andre Miller’s No. 24, Vern Gardner’s No. 33 and Keith Van Horn’s No. 44.

“Andrew was the heart and soul of last year’s team,” Ute head coach Ray Giacoletti said. “For someone who accomplished so much in such a short period of time, I think Andrew is certainly worthy of the honor of having his jersey retired.”

The Utes will put on a few promotions in concurrence with the event. Commemorative pins will be given out to the first 2,000 fans to enter the Huntsman Center that night and upper bowl tickets will be priced at $4 to match Bogut’s number.
