Tennis teams have mostly successful weekends

Both the U men and women had success over the weekend-except when it came to Boise State.

The men started off their busy slate with a disappointing 5-2 loss to the Broncos. The only singles winner was Dan Mascall, a victor in the No. 6 position.

But before long, the men got back to their winning ways. The Utes swept past Santa Clara on Saturday and Nevada on Sunday, winning both 7-0.

The Utes continued their doubles dominance over the weekend as No. 1 pair Zach Ganger and Nick Coutts won all three of their matches.

The U women went 1-1 for the weekend in Boise, sweeping Idaho 7-0 on Friday before falling to host Boise State 6-1 on Saturday. Ute freshman Leigh Walsh had an impressive showing, winning both of her singles matches in the tournament.

The U men will be back in action this Wednesday, when they entertain Idaho State at the Eccles Tennis Center at 5 p.m.

Utah’s women’s team hosts Kansas State on Friday at 5 p.m.
