Weddle named to Lott list

U defensive back Eric Weddle has been named to the Lott Trophy Watch List. The 2005 MWC Defensive Player of the Year joins 41 other players as candidates for the award, which recognizes the nation’s top defensive player who is also a contributor in the community.

Swimmers’ academics recognized

Both men’s and women’s swim teams were named to the annual College Swimming Coaches Association of America Academic All-America team. The team is made up of whole squads, with 275 teams making the cut. The Ute women compiled a team GPA of 3.12 during the Fall Semester, while the men posted a 2.97 as a team. Individual Academic All-Americans will be named in June.

Wong receives second Player of the Week

Second baseman Jackie Wong has won MWC Player of the Week honors after playing a major role in Utah’s doubleheader sweep of UNLV over the weekend.

Wong went 4-for-6 in the series with a grand slam. Her league-leading batting average now stands at .455. Wong is no stranger to the award, having received it in late February as well.
