Student soldiers recognized for hard work

By Jasmine Pourpak

The ROTC cadets gathered in the Utah Museum of Fine Arts on April 13 to honor members who have excelled during Spring Semester.

Individuals were recognized for success as scholars, athletes and leaders by their peers and ROTC superiors.

“(ROTC) has taught me a lot about leadership and how to work with people that I ordinarily wouldn’t think I could work with,” said Rachel Evans, a senior in sociology and winner of the USAA Spirit Award.

Drew Schroeder, a junior in exercise and sports science and a winner in the Ute Warrior Battalion division, said, “ROTC makes school harder, but what I’ve learned here I wouldn’t have learned in a class anywhere else. It’s like a family here.”

Later that afternoon, the TriService Review Awards ceremony was held in the HPER building for the Army, Airforce and Navy/Marines.

This ceremony also recognized those who demonstrated excellence in their respective branches.

“I get to work with the finest America has to offer. It’s taught me that I can do anything I put my mind to,” said Clint Hall, a senior in economics and a Marine.
