Beach party

Students splashed in portable swimming pools and traded the volleyball back and forth in sand courts at the Outdoor Recreation Program on Tuesday.

The party drew dozens of students who braved the 90-degree heat. Jonathan Penfield, a freshman majoring in biomedical engineering, went to mingle with other students and have fun. “I like outdoor sports, and I didn’t have anything else to do,” he said.

Penfield said he hopes the beach party becomes an annual event.

Julian Gomez, the intramural sports and marketing coordinator, was pleased with the party. Gomez said the party’s planners wanted to get students together the day before classes started. “We’re happy to let students know about the outdoor program,” he said.

The five-hour event also included a visit from the MUSS, Swoop and coaches from U sports teams.
