Dance, pop, rock

By Jonny Glines

Bust out the dancing shoes! Or at least the ones you don’t mind getting stepped on. The bands Jack’s Mannequin and Head Automatica are playing tonight- and it’s sure to be a packed show-right here at Salt Lake City’s In The Venue.

Jack’s Mannequin is known for its catchy tunes. Its singles can frequently be heard on the hit TV show, “The O.C.” The blend of pop-punk guitars and melodic piano is a sound that worked for front man Andrew McMahon in his previous band Something Corporate, and has proven the same for Jack’s Mannequin.

For toe-tapping of a different style, check out Head Automatica, here to promote its sophomore album, Propaganda. Dance rock is this band’s specialty. The party style of Head Automatica alone should make the show worth attending. The new album gets plenty of radio time with singles “Lying Through Your Teeth” and “Graduation Day.” Still, the pop album has only helped the band gain new fans that will certainly crowd In The Venue even more than usual tonight.

Also on tour with the bands is the Audition, promoting its album, Controversy Loves Company.

In The Venue is located at 219 S. 600 West. Day-of tickets can be purchased for $20 at smithstix.com.
