The U has created an online course aimed to train licensed counselors in response to a growing demand for substance abuse treatment in rural areas.

The College of Social Work has teamed up with the University of Nevada in Reno to design a four-semester, eight-program course that will teach students about the addiction process, pharmacology, recovery and the development of treatment skills.

Professors from the U have also designed and will teach a supplemental in-field training program.

The online courses will fulfill the general educational requirements necessary to become a substance abuse counselor in Utah.
