Sorority house vandalized

By Clayton Norlen

Just hours after the walls of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority house were repainted in anticipation of the new school year, a vandal broke into the house and covered the walls with splattered blue paint.

Sometime on Sunday, July 8, between 6:30 p.m. and 9:10 p.m., the vandal entered the house and smeared blue paint on many of the walls in rooms and hallways throughout the house, according to police reports. Nothing was stolen and there were no signs of forced entry.

There are no suspects in the case, police said.

“It’s a horrific act and we’re saddened that this has happened,” said Christine Angstman, president of Kappa Kappa Gamma. “We’re grateful that no one was hurt — at least it can all be fixed.”

She estimated that repairs will cost around $2,100, but was unsure of any exact costs.

Lori McDonald, assistant dean of students and an adviser to the greeks, said no sorority members were residing in the house at the time of the incident.

None of the sorority’s members live in the house during summer semester. A housing director is living in an apartment on the property, but was gone at the time of the incident.

Greek community members and U officials said they would not discuss specific details of the vandalism because the incident is still under police investigation.
