Men: UNLV 89, TCU 88

By Cody Brunner

LAS VEGAS-Down by two with under four seconds left, UNLV’s Wink Adams hit a five-foot jumper and was fouled on the shot. The All-MWC First Team performer hit the ensuing free throw and TCU’s Brent Hackett missed a runner at the buzzer to give the Rebels a first-round victory. Adams’ three-point play negated a 3-pointer from Hackett with just under 30 seconds left in the game that gave the Horned Frogs the lead. Adams finished with a game-high 29 points on 10-of-15 shooting and Hackett was close behind with 26 points on 8-of-13 shooting. TCU’s Kevin Langford pitched in 21 points and nine rebounds in the losing effort.

UNLV will now face Utah, who provided the only upset on the men’s side. Tip-off is set for 10:05 MDT.
