The Canadian based band, Alvvays, will be making a stop at the Urban Lounge on Monday, Oct. 30 as part of their fall tour. The tour supports the group’s new album, “Antisocialites,” which debuted on Polyvinyl last month.

Alvvays is an indie pop band that began in Toronto, Canada in 2011. Often described as “jangle pop”, Alvvays presents a wide array of colorful and prismatic noise pop. The band consists of vocalist Molly Rankin, keyboardist Kerri MacLellan, guitarist Alec O’Hanley, bassist Brian Murphy and drummer Sheridan Riley. The group’s first album, titled after their band, debuted in 2014 and was well received by the music industry. Alvvays features Scot-pop vows and original pieces. The album was also shortlisted for the 2015 Polaris Music Prize.

Their second studio album, “Antisocialites” was released on Sept. 8, 2017 and features ten tracks of emotionally based pieces and highly visionary lyrics.

The process of writing “Antisocialites” was a unique experience for lead vocalist, Molly Rankin. Escaping an intense heat wave in the city, Rankin traveled to Toronto Island where she slept by the shore and worked in an abandoned classroom. “I carried a small PA on the ferry in a wheelbarrow,” she said. “Every morning I would listen to my favorite records on the beach, then I’d write melodies and record demos in the classroom.” Fellow band members came later to continue tracking, writing, recording and mixing.

With popular singles such as “In Undertow,” “Dreams Tonite,” and “Plimsoll Punks,” Alvvays has indubitably established their music presence and continues to do so with their extensive fall tour. Urban Lounge will be hosting the group as they continue their tour, with Jay Som opening for them. Som is the San Francisco singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Melina Duterte.

The Alvvays will be performing at the Urban Lounge on Monday, Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 day of show. You must be 21+ to enter. Get your tickets online at http://www.theurbanloungeslc.com/event/1499630-alvvays-salt-lake-city/
