Now that summer is here, we have much more free time to enjoy events all around Utah. Music, art, theater and more — summer is the perfect time to celebrate art. This calendar highlights some of the many arts events happening around the valley.

Grease
May 10-25 | Pioneer Theatre Company

Watch PTC’s musical production of “Grease” to enjoy and reminisce on childhood songs and a timeless classic. For information on ticket prices, visit their website.

 

Gallery Stroll
Third Friday of Each Month | Downtown Salt Lake

The Salt Lake City Gallery Stroll unites visual artists and visual art-appreciators. Take a stroll downtown and visit galleries after-hours to explore the artwork and meet the artists. Some of the event sponsors also offer discounts for participants. This event itself is free to the public.

 

Bravo Puccini
May 18 | Libby Gardner Concert Hall

Come watch the American West Symphony and Chorus of Sandy and Utah Conservatory Choral Society perform. Instruments and voices, soloists and ensembles will blend and split to create a delightful evening of music. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Free with a uID.

 

Big Band Dance Night
May 21- Sept 17 | The Gallivan Center

Every Tuesday, a band will perform and bring music from various different cultures to Salt Lake City. Dancing is encouraged — the nights even begin with dance instruction from 7-7:30 p.m.  For a lineup of the bands, visit Excellence in the Community. This event is free to the public.

 

Utah Pride Festival
June 1-2 | Washington Square

The Utah Pride Center will present its 44th annual Utah Pride Festival. The festival will include a 5k run and the Pride Parade. Members and allies of the LGBTQ community will gather for two days of recognition and empowerment. This event is free to the public.

 

UMFA in the Wild

June 1– Gyotaku Fish Rubbings | East Canyon State Park Pavilion

June 28– Gyotaku Fish Rubbings | Willard Bay State Park Eagle Beach Pavilion 20

June 29– Leaf Prints | Wasatch Mountain State Park Huber Grove

July 6– Become a Land Artist | Antelope Island State Park

July 13– Print Your Own Family Tree | Willard Bay State Park

July 27– Paint a Nightscape | Wasatch Mountain State Park Amphitheater

August 3– Cyanometers | East Canyon State Park Pavilion

Join the UMFA in creating your own artwork inspired by Utah’s incredible landscapes. The series will feature four different state parks and six different art projects. Obtain historical, scientific and artistic knowledge by attending one or multiple of these events. This event is free to the public.

 

Downtown Farmers Market/Art & Craft Market
June 8-Oct 19 | Pioneer Park

The Farmers Market and Art and Craft Market run on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your reusable bags and head to Pioneer Park to support local farms, businesses and artisans. Nothing beats seasonal goods, food trucks and handmade gifts — all in one location.

 

Utah Arts Festival
June 20-23 | Library Square

This annual arts festival attracts about 80,000 people each summer. Eat, view, listen and dance as you support artists from different disciplines. Tickets are $15 per day or $50 for all four days. For more information on the festival, visit uaf.org.

 

LOVELOUD
June 29 | USANA Amphitheater

Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds first hosted the festival three years ago, and it has been a hit ever since with its mission to connect and support members of the LGBTQ community. Speakers and musicians will take on the stage for a celebratory day. The proceeds will help local and national LGBTQ charities. Visit loveloudfest.com for more information.

 

Twilight Concert Series- Salt Lake City
July 20-Aug 30 | The Gallivan Center

Great Salt Lake Fringe
Aug 1-11 | The Gateway

This performing arts festival brings live artists together for eleven days. Watch dance, theater, comedy and music performances and reflect on the ever-changing world of art.

 

Between performances, festivals, markets and miscellaneous events, this summer is packed with plenty of arts-related activities to keep you busy — so mark your calendars and head out into the sun.
