Jehovah’s Witnesses Proselytize at the Union
November 23, 2019
For almost a month, local Jehovah’s Witnesses have spent nearly every morning on campus. They are set up either outside the A. Ray Olpin Union or on the first floor or the Union near the food court. At their tables, two representatives are armed with pamphlets about their religion and a cart full of information. They plan to stay as long as they can — and as long as the University lets them. They are not students but Utah community members.
Jehovah’s Witnesses are known for their neighborhood door-to-door proselyting, but they upped their campaigning in 2011 with a movement centered around literature carts full of bible messages in New York. As of 2015, they set up more than 165,000 carts around the world and have continued the movement since then.
JW.org, the official website for the religion, said “The house-to-house activity is still the primary way in which the Witnesses make known bible truth. Yet, literature carts have proved to be very effective.”
Some of the pamphlets they display are titled “What does the Bible really teach?” and “The secret of family happiness?” along with signs that read, “Was life created?” and “What is true success?”
They sit in high-traffic areas to try to attract people to their tables.
“We are not here to be antagonistic or fight anyone, and we are not here to force people into anything,” said Max Yuan, one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
The JWs also have a table set up in downtown Salt Lake City, near the City Creek mall.
“The point of the table and carts is to be more visible as a religion,” Yuan said.
Another Jehovah’s Witness, Chris Moore, said the initial reaction they got from students was slow, but eventually, people came up and talked to them.
“Overall, it has been a really positive experience we have had with the community,” he said.
However, they have received some pushback from students. In protest, someone put up a sign that read “Jehovah’s Witnesses are a cult. Change my mind,” next to their table.
Moore said the Witnesses respect this student’s free speech and he ultimately respected theirs, and it was not a problem for them.
Bri Fuller, a freshman English major, said she finds the booths uncomfortable and feels them being on campus is invasive and unwarranted.
“The Union does not feel like it should be a place for religious canvassing,” she said.
Brynn Duncan, a junior pre-business major, said she finds it unfair that a religious institution would be so present on campus because the University of Utah is a publicly funded institution.
On the other hand, freshman pre-med laboratory major Avery Wintle said she rarely notices them and it does not bother her.
“As long as they are not getting in my business, I’m cool with it,” Wintle said.

JWs made mistakes and adjusted their teachings. The nice thing about them is that we correct the mistakes and we don’t cling to untruths. That is the same with science, they don’t stick to untruths or theories that are proven wrong. Scientists are progressive. Making mistakes are part of humans as we are imperfect. Do you cling to mistakes?
For example, the teaching of Trinity, three persons in one God is taught by many who called themselves Christians. The Bible simply mentions about God, “I AM God Almighty” . The phrase “I AM” is only used for ONE PERSON and not THREE PERSONS. So when Jesus says “I am Jesus Christ”, it meant there is only ONE person who is Jesus Christ and not three. A university student should know the difference and even a grade school student.
Remember, in the Bible at Revelation, the Christian congregations made many mistakes and they are still considered the Christian congregations, they have to fix their mistakes. Even King David made mistakes and he is still loved by God after he repented.

Jehovah’s Witnesses teach people about the Bible, to help them know about Jehovah and his Son, Jesus. John 17:3, John 3:16. We teach people the Bible and how it can be improved as what Jesus taught. By their fruits you will know that we are true Christians. JWs did not support Hitler when those professing to be Christians did. JWs do not support war as prophecied in Isaiah. Tutsi and Hutu JWs did not kill each other and save each other while other who said they are Christians killed each other. JWs taught about salvation belonging from both Jehovah, our Father in Heaven and his Son, Jesus Christ the Lamb. Rev 7:10. Higher education is not required for salvation although a person can take it if he wants to for secular reasons. Some of those anti-JWs have even left their belief in God, became anti-Christs while teaching other people about the Bible.

Was this article written by a first year student? It’s not exactly investigative journalism.
This puff piece doesn’t ask why Jehovah’s Witnesses are allowed to recruit member on a university campus when they strongly council their members away from pursuing a higher education, for example.
Watchtower preaches repeated warnings against higher education, both in it’s magazines and from the platform. They say that attending university is an improper use of time when members should be door-knocking.
Jehovah’s Witnesses are a high control group who prey on vulnerable people, they have absolutely no place on a university campus and you need to hire better journalists.

Jehovah’s Witnesses (JWs) predicted the end of the world, IN WRITING, numerous times. Not once did they come true. They truly are known for their ‘False Predictions’ the world over.
JWs are taught that they alone are TRUE Christians and that all other people not JW will soon be destroyed. This is no exaggeration.
JWs will allow their own children TO DIE rather than accept a life saving blood transfusion even in severe medical emergencies. It has already happened THOUSANDS of times!
Just like this mother died unnecessarily! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/shropshire/7078455.stm
Two recently in Canada! http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-42002996
Or this teenager that also DIED: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/west_midlands/8690785.stm
This pregnant JW and her baby died.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3027599/Jehovah-s-Witness-baby-die-refuses-blood-transfusion-seven-months-pregnant-cancer-80-chance-surviving-treatment.html
JWs NEEDLESSLY die for this sorry blood policy today.
From the same organization that has an entire 100 + year history of similar bad and embarrasing policies.
As a 15 year active JW (and an elder) here is my own story: http://www.bibletoday.com/archive/JW_Disassociation_letter_by_Vinny.htm#.W0E7_K2ZMVc
JWs used to forbid Vaccinations and Organ Transplants (calling a life saving transplant “Cannibalism”) for a combined 33 years.
This JW elder refused a kidney transplant and DIED only to have JWs say transplants are now OK 2 years later. http://ajwrb.org/debbie-shards-story
JWs enforce extreme shunning for any JW that decides to leave their religion or who sins without showing enough repentance to the elders.
I have literally seen parents cut off all ties with their children solely because the kid did not want to remain a JW but went in another direction.
Even ex-JWs who leave the religion on their own, are 100 percent truthful, sincere, love God, pay taxes, help others and more are still SHUNNED by all current JWs and marked as godless, proud, sinning apostates. The Awake magazine recently called them “mentally diseased”.
And MANY contemplate suicide because the penalties of losing everything are TOO MUCH TO TAKE.
But an honest question is: Why do so many JWs leave after being one time followers?
As I eventually found out, the JW religion did say, IN WRITING, that the end would come in 1914 and then again in 1925. Was Jehovah directing all that? 1914 and 1925 came and went! They were proven false predictions. Period.
They also said the end very likely would happen in 1975 and even commended (in the watchtower) witnesses for selling their houses and pioneering because of it.
But 1975 came and went!
They also said (for many decades) that the end would come before the generation born in 1914 passed away. In fact up until 1995 it was written inside each Awake magazine cover. Only they then had to change that meaning as well (including the Awake masthead) because that generation CAME AND WENT TOO.
I was an active JW (and elder) for 15 years before leaving because of the blood policy 13 yrs ago. Today I’m shunned by all JWs simply because I left the religion.
Most JWs accept everything the Watchtower teaches and says as “food from God”. Just like I did.
Most believe God has chosen the Watchtower Society as his “channel”, which provides food from God Himself to their religion and ONLY their religion.
But an honest look at the facts of the JW religion shows God has not chosen the WT for anything!
Take a LOOK: https://jwfacts.com/watchtower/changed-watchtower-teachings.php
ALL FROM THEIR OWN LITERATURE WITH DATES & PAGES TO SEE FOR YOURSELVES!!!
Pages and pages of mistakes, embarrassments, false predictions, medical disasters, weird science, doctrinal failures and more for over 100 years now!
Obviously ‘GOD’ would not get things wrong like this. Obviously ‘GOD’ did not provide bad food like that for their entire history.
But most JWs have no idea about these things. They’re told to stay away from anything critical of their religion.
For example: Was God’s spirit with JWs when they said Organ Transplants were a “conscience matter” in 1961?
OR,
Was God”s spirit with WT when they THEN SAID Organ Transplants are same as “Cannibalism” in 1967 and forbid them?
OR, was God’s spirit with the WT when they THEN SAID Organ Transplants are NOT the same as cannibalism in 1980 and now allow them?
Was God behind all those changes each time? Did ((GOD)) get all those things wrong each time? How many JWs like that elder above DIED by refusing kidney transplants, only later on to be told they’re OK to have now?
Which is why some end up taking their lives due to losing their family or feel compelled to speak out about it, like me right now.
And because I walked away JWs are demanded to shun you for life (including your very own family).
Examine this religion and ask as many questions as you can!

I agree it should be good to permit freedom of speech (as the constitution requires) my problem is that too few people know the teachings and background of Jehovah’s witnesses and can be fooled by their propaganda. If you choose to converse with the witnesses, search the internet, there is a wealth of information about them there.
