Since turning 21, rarely a week goes by that I don’t receive a text from a buddy saying something like “Hey man, Fisher has a great food truck tonight, do you wanna go check it out?”

Such things are now a fact of life for me. So, upon hearing about the Food Truck Face Off at Liberty Park, I messaged all my friends. Of course, being the friends they are, everyone canceled last minute except for one. Another fact of my life these days. However, we still had an absolute blast. We loved not only supporting some smaller businesses that operate out of food trucks but also knowing that a portion of the money we spent was going to go toward three great nonprofits.

Strippin Dippin Chicken

Walking into the food truck battleground was overwhelming. The combination of smells with the afternoon heat, and the variety and amount of people that showed up was astounding. People came out for this event, and they did not skimp on the wardrobe. I felt like a fish out of water in my white t-shirt and tan shorts. I was just attempting to beat the heat, but the heat from the clothing was something I did not consider.

After getting over all of the various distractions, we started browsing all of our options. Eventually, settling on the one I had my eyes on from my preliminary search, Strippin Dippin Chicken. I am a sucker for fried chicken, always have and always will be. Plus, with a sexy chicken flexing as their logo, how could I say no? The food was delightful, a perfect amount for a great price, and it fits in with the park’s atmosphere.

Sugar-Free Shasta

About halfway through our meal, coincidentally, as I started wishing for something to drink, someone came around and started giving out free Shasta. Of course, I was excited, free Shasta is never something to turn down. Then came the caveat, it was sugar-free! Shasta decided to do some PR and test out a new line of their classic sodas in a sugar-free form at this event. Man, was I heartbroken.

It was almost good because it almost tasted like Shasta. After swallowing came the dreaded sugar-free aftertaste that no drink of its kind can seem to escape. It is truly one of the only times in my life I have not been able to finish a can of Shasta Tiki Punch.

No One Truly Appreciates the Park

After we finished feasting, we walked around a bit more, listening to some of the live music that they had playing and truly thinking about the beauty of the park. Liberty Park is such a nice place to spend an afternoon. As my girlfriend says, “No one truly appreciates the park.” Events like these bring such a nice sense of community to the parks, and I am glad to have been able to contribute.
