New TRAX Stations to Display U Student Art

Several U students have the opportunity to have their work displayed in public, thanks to the new TRAX line currently under construction. In a competition held for art and architecture students at the U in March, students were invited to submit proposals of art projects which will be installed at the new TRAX stations on South Campus Drive, near Fort Douglas and near the Medical Center.

ASUU Appeals May Result In Discussion About Budget

Student government leaders with big plans may not have any money to spend. The passage of the annual Associated Students of the University of Utah budget is being challenged by two students who are angry about the voting process by which the budget was passed.

Financial Help Available from Advocacy Office

Students who are having a hard time paying rent or are accruing medical bills or other minor financial obligations because of uncontrollable circumstances now have a place to turn. The Associated Students of the University of Utah's Student Advocacy Office has organized an Emergency Student Loan for such cases.

Some of you might be missing neighbors. Fear not. They were probably just deported. A new acronym, sounding like drug pamphlet slang for street drugs that users never actually say, hit headlines last week: ICE. ICE, or the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, unveiled the new sheriff in town last week with the announcing of a crackdown on illegal immigrants with criminal histories.

Diversity Director Quits, Position Opens

After a sudden resignation and some organizational restructuring, there's one more position open in the student government's Executive Cabinet. Less than a month after being inaugurated into office, Maryam Basmenji, appointed director of the Associated Students of the University of Utah's Diversity Board, resigned from her position.

U Continues Gun Debate by Filing In State Court

Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff's office is convinced that the U's no-gun policy is illegal according to Utah laws. That's too bad for now, at least until a ruling is made on the U's "friendly" lawsuit, which was recently filed in state courts, according to U Vice President for University Relations, Fred Esplin.

New Dean for College of Health Is Appointed

James Graves, associate dean for graduate studies, budget and research at Syracuse University's College of Education will replace John Dunn as dean of the College of Health, beginning July 1st, 2003. Dunn went to Southern Illinois University, Carbondale to serve as provost and vice chancellor.
