Letter to the Editor: Don’t Try to Cure Homosexuality

By and November 11, 2002
Editor: I recently read The Chronicle's Nov. 7 article, "Panelists Present Opposing views on 'Curing' Homosexuals" about the panel hosted by the U' Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center earlier this week. As an alumnus of the university, I was delighted to learn that the center opened last year.

Letter to the Editor: ‘Prone’ to Write Bad Headlines

By By Michael Scott Martin and By Michael Scott Martin November 8, 2002
Editor: I am writing in response to the Oct. 4 front page article, "College Gun Owners Prone to Bad Behavior." While the article itself was fairly well written and reasonably balanced, the headline was poorly chosen at best. The implication of the headline was that college students who own guns are more likely to engage in antisocial behavior.

Letter to the Editor: Education, Utah Pioneer Style

By By Joseph F. Buchanan and By Joseph F. Buchanan November 7, 2002
Editor: As I view editorial cartoons, I understand the nature of exaggeration and bias used to make points. I enjoy editorial cartoons greatly, even if they oppose my personal beliefs. However, I must admit that I was surprised because of the complete lack of truth in The Chronicle's Nov.

Editorial: American Must Strengthen Economic Rights

By By Daniel Thatcher and By Daniel Thatcher November 7, 2002
Great books can lead to great movements. Michael Harrington's book "The Other America: Poverty in the United States" moved a generation to support LBJ's Great Society legislation; Betty Friedan's "The Feminine Mystique" helped to propel the burgeoning feminist movement; and some even credit Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Uncle Tom's Cabin" with starting the Civil War.

Letter to the Editor: In Defense of Judge Young

By and November 6, 2002
Editor: Shannon Harper's vicious Oct. 30 opinion column, "If You Love Justice, Vote Against David Young" illustrates the undiluted power of ignorance, bias and plain old-fashioned gossip. Since when is Redbook magazine a reliable source for informed commentary? How intellectually responsible is it to accept without question accusations against judges from attorneys and defendants who may have lost cases in their courts? I know Judge Young very well, and assert he respects women and men equally and treats all people with warmth and courtesy.
