Student Leaders Create Web Site To Help Lobbying

After talking about it for months, the Utah Student Association formally launched a Web site aimed at keeping students politically connected last week. Located at www.utahstudents.org, the site will allow students to easily identify their representative and email him or her by clicking on the lawmaker's picture.

Allen Takes Reins of Century for Next Year

Like an over-anxious youngster standing at the edge of the pool with little knowledge of how to swim, Seth Allen is preparing to take over The Century magazine. "I am diving into a deep pool," said the sophomore studying physics. Allen has not worked for a publication and has little experience writing, but the Latter-day Saints Institute of Religion has pegged him to take over the student LDS magazine that boasts a readership of about 10,000 each month.

Hawkes Becomes 1st U Female in NAS

On Tuesday morning, Anthropology Chairwoman Kristen Hawkes was elected to the National Academy of Sciences, a private organization that advises the federal government on science and technology issues. Hawkes is the eighth U faculty member to be honored by the organization, but the first female.

Executive Cabinet Reveals How It Spent Its $54,012

This year's Executive Cabinet is ready to disclose how it spent its money. The expenditure information of the cabinet will appear on the Web site of the Associated Students of the University of Utah at 5 p.m. today. The information posted online will identify each expenditure, and include a narrative written by each Executive Cabinet member explaining what programs and purposes the $54,012 spent by the cabinet served.

Police Report: Passed Out U Sports Fan Booked in Jail

Dude passes out in bathroom?U police were called to deal with a man passed out in a restroom at Rice-Eccles Stadium during a sports event there. The man had passed out in the doorway and people had to step over him to use the restroom. He was awakened and taken out of the stadium by the police who eventually booked him into jail because there was no room in the detox facility.

The U's gerontology center celebrated its 30-year anniversary Saturday in the Union Ballroom to mostly positive aplomb. Students, faculty and citizens of all ages gathered together to talk about gerontology, to eat and to otherwise celebrate. However, the night was unfortunately marred by an unsavory, ageist comment directed toward the center itself.
