Split Squad Track Team Heads to San Diego, Logan

After a very impressive meet at Provo, in which the U track and field team flexed their muscles to place well in many events, the team will split up for weekend competition. The women's team heads to San Diego, while the men travel to Logan to compete in the Utah State Invitational.

First Spring Scrimmage Saturday

After three weeks of practice, the U football team is ready to take the next step in its preparation for the 2002 season. Its first scrimmage of the spring will take place this Saturday at the McCarthey Practice Fields, beginning at 10:30 a.m. It is the first of three scheduled scrimmages the team will hold during the course of the spring, the last of which will culminate with an intra-squad game April 27.

Ute Gymnasts Idle in Prep for NCAAS

The U gymnastics team is six days away from its 27th straight national championships, with the 2002 version taking place from April 18-20 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. So how is the team preparing for a run at the university's 11th national title in its practice regimen? "We're cutting back on everything a little, but we still practice three hours a day," U coach Greg Marsden said.

Netters Drop First Home Match

There are obviously some voodoo vibes emanating from the Eccles Tennis Center. That, or BYU just has a great group of netters. Whatever the reason, the U men's tennis team suffered its first home loss of the year on Thursday with an ignominious 7-0 defeat at the hands of the Cougars.

Suprise Air Force To Challenge U for Third

The U baseball team has had a goal of beating the odds, of becoming a team that was predicted to finish 3rd in the Mountain West Conference to getting to the NCAA Regionals. However, the Utes have not been the only team in the MWC to beat the odds and try to finish above and beyond where they were predicted.

Tutoring Center Could Get More Money and New ASUU Label

Two years ago Yvonne Nkwen-Tamo needed help with math assignments constituting 25 percent of her grade. After trying the math lab, she decided to find help through the Tutoring Center instead. She still uses the center to help her in her math major classes.

With Olympic Crunch Over, Parking Is More Available

Now that the Olympics are over, the U has returned parking spaces to students, but new light rail construction may affect their commute. On Tuesday, the U boasted 3,070 free parking spaces at 10:30 a.m., according to Alma Allred, director of Transportation and Parking Services.

U Remembers Holocaust

Throughout the campus, students, faculty and staff are wearing yellow Stars of David worn to commemorate the more than six million Jews who died in the Holocaust. The stars are part of the U's annual Days of Remembrance, which has hosted activities throughout the week.

Letter to the Editor: Gun Control is Ineffective

Editor: This is in response to Justin Birch's April 10 letter to the editor, "Guns on Campus Are Dangerous." First, he is right. Guns kill people. Here in America and around the world they kill people. I would estimate that more than 99 percent of all firearms sold on the world market today were designed to inflict death efficiently.
