This time just a year ago, U football coach Ron McBride was contending with headhunters out for his job for the umpteenth time after the promise of a potential conference championship quickly degenerated into a 4-7 finish. Through it all, he remained unperturbed, expressing support for his players, making changes to the staff and personnel and all the while maintaining his belief that his football team was a good one.

Letter to the Editor: Toppling the U’s Parking Tyranny

Editor: I would like to express my support for Steve Rinehart and wish him well in his endeavor to topple the parking tyranny at the U. Although I do not own a parking permit, I agree that those who have bought them have been treated dishonestly and that parking services needs to compensate those it has cheated and lied to.

The university light rail line opened for business at midday Dec. 15 to hundreds of passengers. Parking Appeals Officer Elisabeth Wilkinson was fired Wednesday, she said because she talked to the newspaper about something "corrupt" that happened at parking services. The son of prominent U donors came into parking services Tuesday "threatening" that his family would withdraw funds if a boot weren't taken off his girlfriend's car and her fines nullified, said Wilkinson, a senior studying psychology.

Police Report: Transient flushed out of MBH, arrested

Lurker arrested?A transient was flushed out of Milton Bennion Hall and ran from security. The police caught and questioned him. He gave the questioning officer false information about his identity, but another officer at the scene recognized the transient from a previous encounter and corrected the deception.

U and Opera Company Settle on Archive Suit

The U and Utah Festival Opera Company settled a two year legal battle over more than 50,000 musical recordings memorabilia and instruments with the creation of a non-profit organization Wednesday. For the last two years, lawyers representing both organizations have fought a custody battle for the Mariska Aldrich Music Archive, worth $3 million.
