Letter to the Editor: Not All Are Smiling About TRAX

Editor: It is challenging to criticize a politically correct icon of contemporary society. Light rail, seemingly popular and accepted by the public, has become such an icon in the first two years of operation. Does the university community know that next month, rail tracks will occupy half the traffic space on South Campus Drive, reducing traffic to one lane each direction? The U has been rather selfish on this matter.

Softball Team Goes Two and Out at NCAAs

The U softball season was a roller coaster ride in anybody's view. After starting the season by going 8-26, the Utes bounced back in Mountain West Conference play, winning the conference tournament and making a run into the NCAA Tournament. That's where the ride ended, though.

Four U softball players were recognized as members of the All-Mountain West Conference Team. Lyndsey Trevis, Niki Hayhurst, Melissa Stahnke and Molly McLean were selected to the 20-member team. Hayhurst bounced back from a rough start to hit .292 on the year with 7 home runs.

House Passes Bill Against Molesters

WASHINGTON?Citing Internet danger to children, the House voted Tuesday to expand wiretap authority to target molesters who find young victims online and to establish a new domain for kid-friendly Web sites. The wiretap measure, approved 396-11, would allow investigators to seek wiretaps for suspected sexual predators to help block physical meetings between molesters and children they meet via the computer.
