From your coverage?as well as what I've heard elsewhere?the symposium seemed to have been totally dominated by the type of person who broke into wild cheering when IBM's "Deep Blue" beat Gary Kasparov a few years back.

Track and Field Split Weekend at Pair of Meets

After a week of cancellations due to weather conditions, the U track and field team competed in two meets. The Idaho State Springfest, which pitted some solid teams such as BYU, Idaho State, Utah, and Southern Utah was where most of the team went, while a handful of athletes were sent to the Oregon Invitational.

Baseball Feeling Confident

Confidence has been an attribute the U baseball team has gained throughout each series. After starting the conference season by being swept by the New Mexico Lobos, the team now feels it can beat anyone, after taking two out of three from San Diego State. "The two best teams in the conference were playing in our series this weekend, and we came out on top," said U baseball coach Tim Esmay.

Coles Gets Ready to Take Reins of Academic Senate

Presenter’s Office Will Release Student Survey

Two weeks ago the Student Senate spent no time discussing the Presenter's Office budget, despite a bill threatening to cut its funding by nearly half. Sen. Sam Swenson, humanities, proposed a resolution to decrease the funding of the Presenter's Office to 20 percent of ASUU's annual budget.

Edwards Appoints Executive Cabinet

The 15 students who will organize many student government programs next year and determine the fate of $67,600 have been chosen. The Executive Cabinet of the Associated Students of the University of Utah is the group who direct some of the most visible programs of ASUU, including the student advocacy forums and the family fun days.

Senate: Oil Price Increases Forced

WASHINGTON?While the industry often blames gasoline price spikes on market-driven shortages, a congressional investigation has found that some oil companies reduce supplies when markets are tight to force up prices and profits. The investigation by a Senate subcommittee found that industry manipulation of gasoline supplies exacerbated tight fuel markets and helped produce some of the sharp price spikes over the last three years, especially in the Midwest.
