4th Seed Utes Trade Volleys With UNLV in First Round

Riding a two-match winning streak, the U men's tennis team is in Las Vegas for the 2002 Mountain West Conference Tournament. The tournament will be held from today until Saturday on the UNLV campus. The Utes drew the No. 4 seed and will play UNLV in the first match of the tournament.

U Recycling Problem Takes More Than Bins

In the afterglow of Earth Day, it's easy to feel optimistic about the state of the planet and the state of campus policy toward the environment. Looking around, it is easy for the aspiring environmentalist to feel good about the state of things, as everybody jumps on the bandwagon of eco-friendly jingles and feel-good sayings like "save our national forests" and "recycle in your community.

The Chronicle’s View: Students Need to Be Active on Committees

There are 59 committees on the U campus and 30 that students hold positions on. These statistics appear relatively benign, until one realizes the impact that students can make when evaluating campus policies and issues. For instance, students on these committees have been the leaders in instituting the U's reading day and providing evaluations online?two very significant services that serve students on a direct and tangible level.

Religious Minor Faces Obstacles

In the United States few locations place as much importance on religion as Utah. However, the state's largest university lacks a religious studies program, which baffles U Hebrew Professor Harris Lenowitz. "Why, of all places in the universe, are we not doing religious studies here?" he asked.

Utes Lose to SUU in Extra Innings, 5-4

The U softball team's streak was halted Wednesday afternoon in Cedar City as the U "gave away" a 5-4 decision in extra innings to Southern Utah, U coach Mona Stevens said. The loss snapped Utah's seven-game winning streak as the Utes head into a big battle this weekend with in-state nemesis and Mountain West Conference foe BYU.
