U Program Wants Donated Bodies

New billboards along I-15 urge people to take the time to fill out an organ donor form by paraphrasing Paul Simon's song: "There must be 50 ways to leave your liver." Utah now has its own organ donor registry, which will make it easier for people to donate their body parts to others.

Letter to the Editor: Opening Discussion at University

Editor: A teaching assistant asks students if they are LDS. Students voluntarily raise their hands. TA questions the history of the LDS Church and lack of apparent diversity within its hierarchy. Some students are upset that their church is under attack and are angry that they did not get a chance to rebut.

Forcing fifth-year seniors, remedial math students and those seeking to retake a course to boost a grade represent backwards ways to raise what would amount to only a few cents in the scheme of higher education's budget.

Letter to the Editor: Considering Personal Liberties

Editor: The esteemed Mr. Jared Clay, in his April 18 letter to the editor, "Flag Burning Promotes Negativity," invited the students who hope to see a United States flag burned in a class to "parasitize a different country." Further, Clay makes the assertion that were there to be more patriotism similar to that of David Reichner, a student who barred another from burning a flag, a sense of "responsible citizenship" would emerge.

Stolen beer kegs and joy-riding?A man took his parents' car without permission and picked up a couple of friends. They planned on stealing a keg of beer from the University Park Hotel and guzzling it in the foothills east of Research Park. University police learned about the car and pulled it over in the hotel parking lot.

Mooney Gets Appointment Kathleen Mooney has been appointed to serve as a member of the Institute of Medicine, Division of Earth and Life Sciences' National Cancer Policy Board beginning May 1. The appointment was announced last week by Dr. Kenneth Shine, president of the Institute of Medicine.
