Letter to the Editor: Students Have Right to Disagree

Editor: I recently read the article about the teaching assistant who made "offensive" comments concerning The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints which offended some students. I also read The Chronicle's house editorial concerning the issues. I must say, I disagree with both the students and your catering voice.

Letter to the Editor: Gun Control is Ineffective

Editor: This is in response to Justin Birch's April 10 letter to the editor, "Guns on Campus Are Dangerous." First, he is right. Guns kill people. Here in America and around the world they kill people. I would estimate that more than 99 percent of all firearms sold on the world market today were designed to inflict death efficiently.

Now that the Olympics are over, the U has returned parking spaces to students, but new light rail construction may affect their commute. On Tuesday, the U boasted 3,070 free parking spaces at 10:30 a.m., according to Alma Allred, director of Transportation and Parking Services.

Study Finding 1,400 Alcohol Deaths at Colleges Prompts Call to Change Attitudes on Student Drinking

WASHINGTON?A study showing 1,400 college students are killed each year in alcohol-related accidents should change the views of people who see drinking on campus as little more than a rite of passage, researchers and university officials said Tuesday. The federally appointed task force that issued the report plans to distribute the study to college presidents, along with findings about which anti drinking strategies work and which don't.

Kappa Sigma Not Alone in Inappropriate Behavior

"By not confronting inappropriate behavior, chapter members are essentially condoning it." Greek Council Adviser Lori McDonald has a small plaque featuring that quotation. It's McDonald's job to counsel the U's Greek Council officers as well as meet with chapter presidents on a regular basis.

Comments Offend Some LDS Students

The Daily Utah Chronicle A teaching assistant verbally attacked LDS students and the LDS Church, according to a group of students who now urge administrators to take immediate disciplinary action. However, teaching assistant Amadou Niang said his only error was underestimating the response of his students when he used The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as an example of institutional racism.
