LGBT Opening Is Opportunity to Celebrate

Hi. My name is Kristin, and I'm "queer." More on that later. I also use the "F" word quite a bit, and I plan to use it, for emphasis, later in this article. In order to alleviate the anxiety?the wide-spread panic?that I just struck in the hearts of many of my dear readers, permit me to explain.

U Hoopster Beckman Gets Tryout for WNBA

Lauren Beckman will never again don a Utah women's basketball jersey, as her collegiate eligibility expired at the end of this past season, but that doesn't necessarily mean that her hoops career is over. The two-time All-Mountain West Conference First Teamer is one of about 80 players heading out to Chicago to participate in the WNBA's Pre-Draft Camp, hoping to make it to the pros.

Softball Stumbles, Only Earns a Split

The U softball team went 1-1 against in-state rival Southern Utah yesterday, losing the first game 5-3, but winning the second, 5-2. The Utes are now 17-31. The games will not matter in the Mountain West Conference race, since SUU is a non-conference opponent.

A state legislative shortfall will compound the already severe nursing shortage in Utah. Utah ranks third in the nation, behind only Nevada and California, in the severity of its nurse shortage. With only 592 nurses per 100,000 residents, the number of nurses in Utah has declined by 6.

Lance Armstrong was a world-class cyclist in 1996 when he was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer and given a 30 percent chance of survival. Under the care of Dr. Craig Nichols, oncologist at Indiana University, Armstrong underwent chemotherapy and achieved a remission.

Throughout the campus, students, faculty and staff are wearing yellow Stars of David worn to commemorate the more than six million Jews who died in the Holocaust. The stars are part of the U's annual Days of Remembrance, which has hosted activities throughout the week.

Two years ago Yvonne Nkwen-Tamo needed help with math assignments constituting 25 percent of her grade. After trying the math lab, she decided to find help through the Tutoring Center instead. She still uses the center to help her in her math major classes.
