Marijuana barter system?At a gas station near the U, a man tried to buy a sandwich with marijuana, the attendant reported to a U police officer. The attendant pointed the suspect out and he ran from the area. The officer caught and detained him, finding marijuana in two of his pockets.

BYU Threatens Leaving Student Lobbying Group

Student delegates from the 11 colleges and universities in Utah met last weekend to discuss what they wanted to see the Utah Student Association lobby for next year. Delegates from the U proposed three resolutions to the Utah Intercollegiate Assembly, which is the legislative branch of the Utah Student Association, a lobbying group representing all 120,000 students in Utah's higher education system.

After three weeks of elections hype, Bill Edwards slept like a baby Friday night. But Monday morning, he rose early to meet with the Board of Trustees. Winning the Associated Students of the University of Utah presidential seat by 56 votes, Edwards will soon sit on the U's highest governing body, representing 27,000 students.

Drug Will ‘Search & Destory’ Cancer

U researchers have developed a new medication to track down, invade and destroy tumor cells as they spread. The new "bioconjugate" (joining) drug also contains a large molecule known as a copolymer to hold the drug inside cancer cells. It has proved effective in killing human breast, ovarian and colon tumor cells grown in the laboratory, according to a study published in the April issue of the journal, Pharmaceutical Research.
