Shelton’s Injuries May Need Surgery

WASHINGTON?Doctors are closely monitoring retired Army Gen. Henry H. Shelton, a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to determine whether he needs spinal cord surgery, a spokeswoman for Walter Reed Army Medical Center said Thursday. Shelton, who initially was partially paralyzed when he fell off a ladder at his suburban Virginia home Saturday, remains in serious condition in the hospital's intensive care unit, Beverly Chidel said.

Career diplomat Vicki Huddleston said the movement is changing the political dynamic in Cuba, which has been under one-party rule for decades.

Gang Brawl Kills Texan Prisoner

LIVINGSTON, Texas?One inmate was stabbed to death and another severely beaten Thursday in a brawl involving rival prison gangs. Corrections officers had to use chemical agents to break up the fight, which took place in a runway area outside one of the buildings at the Texas prison system's Polunsky Unit, prison spokesman Larry Fitzgerald said.

Baseball Beats S. Colorado

After only two days after finishing a series with UNLV, the U baseball team was scheduled to play Southern Colorado in a short two-games series. Utah won Game 1 of the series on Tuesday afternoon by a wide margin, 12-4. The win extends the Utes' winning streak to three games, with the record rising to 15-12 overall.
