Dudley Moore Dies, 66, Of Brain Illness

TRENTON, N.J.?Dudley Moore, the cuddly little Englishman who portrayed a lovably forlorn drunk in "Arthur," died Wednesday of complications from a rare and incurable brain disorder. He was 66. The comic actor died at a friend's home in Plainfield of pneumonia stemming from progressive supranuclear palsy, which is similar to Parkinson's disease and affects one of every 100,000 people.

Officials: Troops Likely To Stay in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON?American troops will stay indefinitely in Afghanistan as local power struggles and remaining al Qaeda make it impossible to set a withdrawal deadline, defense officials say. The U.S. troops will help train an Afghan army in addition to searching for al Qaeda fighters, and may also intervene to keep violent warlords apart.

Girl Dies at Drill Team Performance

LOGAN?A 15-year-old Logan High School student died after she collapsed while watching a high school drill team performance on Monday night. Authorities believe the girl's congenital heart condition caused her death. Freshman Courtney Self passed out while sitting on the bleachers at the Logan Recreation Center.

Women’s Studies Dept. Becomes Gender Studies

As of next fall, women's studies at the U officially becomes gender studies?catching up with the more inclusive and progressive material it teaches, according to Associate Director Debra Burrington. The department anticipates the change will make some men more comfortable taking its courses, she said.

Kappa Sigmas Will Stay in House Untill Semester’s End

The U's chapter of Kappa Sigma has been officially disbanded for at least two years. "We felt that the chapter was not making appropriate progress toward our values and standards," said Kappa Sigma International executive director Mitchell Wilson. A chapter is a local affiliate of a national fraternity or sorority.

Gov. Makes Road to Residency Longer

To the disappointment of students leaders state wide, Gov. Mike Leavitt signed a bill that makes residency harder to achieve Tuesday. Since the state Legislature passed the bill early in March, advocates of higher education have worried about House Bill 331.

House Bill 111: State Responsibility for Regulation of Post-secondary Schools, sponsored by Rep. Afton Bradshaw, R-Salt Lake. The primary election will continue until Thursday at 9 p.m. The two winning parties for the presidential office will be announced that night, as well as the candidates proceeding to the final election for Student Senate and General Assembly.
