U Prof Gets $1.1M NIH Grant to Study Urinary Problem

Dr. Peggy Norton, associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the U, is the principal investigator on a five year study of two surgical treatments for urinary incontinence, a seldom discussed health problem of women. Urinary incontinence is a major problem among women.

Though it's a prickly issue for those involved, K-UTE's funding is under the Associated Students of the University of Utah microscope. The problem? ASUU awarded K-UTE $20,200 this year. Though it is chunk of change compared to other ASUU-funded endeavors?the Presenter's Office receives $400,000?ASUU's concerns about K-UTE funding are legitimate.

Let the race begin. The Associated Students of the University of Utah have begun that ever-traditional springtime event?the presidential and vice presidential (and Senate and Assembly) election. The season began March 20 outside Kingsbury Hall, where candidates paraded their nascent campaigns and began honing their public speaking skills.

Letter to the Editor: Keep K-UTE Alive

Editor: I am a graduate student here at the U. I also have obtained my two undergraduate degrees at this fine institution. I am presently appalled at the lack of creativity due to the budget crunch. I am no stranger to finance issues, I have run two multi-million dollar companies in my short life.

Dee Named Museum of Fine Arts Director

After an 18-month-long national hunt, the search committee chose David Dee to lead the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. Dee became the interim director of the museum in July as the search, which reviewed a total of 42 applicants, continued. "I'm delighted with the selection, he was chosen from an intensive two year search," said Phyllis Haskell, dean of the College of Fine Arts.

A Bloodless Ordeal: Laparoscopy Is Making Surgery Less Traumatic

Jan. 24, 2002?In a University Hospital operating room, Dr. Robert Glasgow watches approvingly as the resident surgeon across the table performs the difficult procedure. "Oh, doctor!" he said with satisfaction. "Great dissection. The best I've ever seen. You're the man!" Except for a minor instrument malfunction, the surgery continues without any glitches.
