Goshute Election Mediation Likely

SALT LAKE CITY?The U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs has offered to supervise a new election for the bitterly divided Skull Valley Band of Goshute Indians as the tribe makes plans to store tons of radioactive waste from nuclear power plants. The bureau normally intervenes in tribal affairs only when invited, but the Goshute controversy could complicate important issues facing the tribe, authorities said.

Most people find the department's current location, south of the Huntsman Center, by accident, according to campus recreation manager Rob Jones. New Policy Shoots Down Parking Violations

In a bold move supporting the U's on-campus gun policy, the Division of Transportation and Parking Services announced Friday that all parking enforcement officers will now carry P-38 Lugar handguns. The announcement, made by Parking and Transportation Services Director Arnold Clayson, detailed the service's new system of ticketing?one that includes higher ticket fees and an increase in parking enforcement staff.
