Utility Must Pay For Air Pollution

WASHINGTON?The government and a New Jersey utility reached a settlement Thursday in which the company agreed to pay $1.4 million in penalties and spend more than $340 million to reduce air pollutants from two power plants by tens of thousands of tons. The settlement is only the second of its kind under new environmental rules adopted in the mid-1990s and could prompt similar agreements to resolve lawsuits seeking pollution reductions at aging coal-fired plants throughout most of the eastern United States.

Hinckley Institute Receives Grant for Local Internships

The Hinckley Institute of Politics received a grant from the R. Harold Burton Foundation to fund local, paid internships. There are 10 internships available, five are targeted to minority applicants. All interested students are eligible. Selected interns will receive pay and political science credit.

Former Ambassador Predicts Outcomes to Middle East Conflict

Former U.S. Ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk predicted possible outcomes of the current Palestinian-Israeli stalemate. He spoke Wednesday at a lecture sponsored by Middle East Center in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
