Science. Politics. In the minds of many researchers and policy makers, this is the way that the two fields interact, or rather don't interact?each is encapsulated in its own separate sentence. And, in theory, if the two words came together, they might just communicate a more powerful message.

U Recognized as National Leader in Energy Conservation

A study of 891 campus environments highlights the U and 13 other schools as nationwide leaders in energy efficiency and conservation. However, the U was not recognized in the other areas, such as environmentally friendly campus transportation, academic environmental disciplines, recycling, landscape conservation and environmental management policy.

Docents Wanted

Audrey Butley tours The Nazi Olympics: Berlin 1936. The Marriott Library needs docents to help with the exhibit. Volunteer docents can be trained during a four-hour training session on Jan. 13, beginning at 1 p.m. This training will cover the history of the exhibit and include a tour.

Kingsbury Hall Forms a Student Council

The group mainly responsible for bringing Bill Cosby and Marcel Marceau to the U needs student input. Kingsbury Hall is forming a student council to gain feedback on selecting artists to present and on marketing those events to the students. The council currently has five students serving on it, but they hope to have 20 students soon.

Parking-related assault?After getting out of her car in the HPER lot, a student was assaulted.She said she had pulled her car into a stall and a car pulled up behind her, blocking her in.She said a young man got out, yelled at her about taking his spot and pushed her back against her car.

Students Given Extra Time to Graduate

A new U policy is giving perpetual students extra time to graduate. Since the U's semester conversion in 1998, students who desired to graduate under the quarter system had a graduation deadline of Spring 2003. On Tuesday, the Academic Senate passed an initiative to extend that deadline until Spring Semester 2005.
