Students, Teachers Get Help With Genetics

Genetic research is moving at a break-neck pace. News about discoveries of genes and their functions are commonplace. Consequences of these discoveries range from new disease treatments to ethical issues. To help the public keep up with this burgeoning scientific field, the Eccles Institute of Human Genetics set up the Genetic Science Learning Center in 1994 to help fill the void of up-to-date resources available.

LOGAN?Looking to expand the quality and caliber of Utah State University's academic and competitive reputation, President Kermit Hall is petitioning the Utah Legislature for money to fund a genomic center at USU. "Because we are a land grant university with a history in agriculture and engineering and science, genomics is a logical next step for this institution," Hall said.

Although the weather was not as cold as they expected it to be, members of the Student Advocacy Office warmed and informed students Tuesday during this month's student advocacy forum.
