Hussein Demands Cut in Oil Exports

BAGHDAD, Iraq?Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Monday called on Arab oil exporters to stop sales to the United States and Israel as well as cut their exports in half. Saddam spoke in a national television address less than a month after he announced he was cutting off Iraq's oil exports for 30 days or until Israel withdraws from Palestinian territories, an announcement that triggered an immediate increase in world oil prices.

Regents Looking at Plan to Charge Some Students More for College

Heeding the call of state legislators, Regents are taking a closer look at three methods to shift the direct costs of higher education to the student. Currently, resident students pay roughly one-third the cost of education. U students taking 15 credit hours pay $1,500 a semester for tuition, and taxpayers pay for the remaining $3,200.

ASUU Lobbies for Safety Upgrades in East Village

Student leaders want to make a safer living environment in married student housing by installing a camera, emergency phone and a gate in the East Village. Leaders decided to focus on the East Village because it was the part of campus most obviously in need of help, according to Kamron Dalton, a General Assembly member on a committee examining safety issues.

Students, Community Support Earth Day

An array of bands and guest appearances by Mayor Rocky Anderson and author Terry Tempest Williams, among others, were the highlights of Earth Day 2002, celebrated yesterday outside of the Union. The event, which ran from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m., was sponsored by Terra Firma, a student-run environmental awareness organization.
